ACI/SPCA:

ACI makes farm animal protection its priority and provides much needed humane protection for farm animals under the law - especially in areas where humane enforcement is minimal, or non-existent.
Working with other animal protection organizations, and law enforcement agencies, ACI works to protect farm animals through cruelty investigations, humane enforcement efforts and the seizure of abused and neglected farm animals.
SB 1417
The California Legislature has recently introduced a bill, SB 1417, which would seriously curtail both the formation of humane societies and their ability to appoint certified humane officers. Organizations like ACI, which is a private, nonprofit SPCA, would be put out of business if this bill is allowed to pass. Unfortunately, there are some powerful backers of this bill including the Sheriff's Association and this bill has already gained traction, but we can stop it with your help. LOS ANGELES COUNTY- It's a dark and rainy Saturday morning as ACI'S undercover officer arrives at the livestock auction, the crossroads for farm animals destined for slaughter. Every week, thousands of farm animals are transported to livestock auctions, sold and transported again throughout the United States and abroad. Here, animal welfare is a low priority and injured animals are frequently overlooked.In addition to several goats and a large hog in a tight pen, our investigator counts four calves at this auction. One is only two days old. All are shivering from the frigid temperatures. Their harrowing adventure started hours, possibly days earlier, and entailed electric prods, helicopters and ATVs, all working to separate them from their mothers as well as from their natural hierarchical structure among the other cows.
