because laws are only as good as their enforcement

Enforcement:

Animal Cruelty Investigations is a registered Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, with the authority to appoint Humane Officers to enforce California’s anti-cruelty laws and gain needed humane protection for farm animals.

The majority of ACI's farm animal protection is enforced through the two most important California laws protecting animals:

  • Penal Code 597 Crimes Against Animals - 'subjects animal to needless suffering'
  • Penal Code 597.1 Permitting Animals to go without Veterinary Care - Seizure of animal

With PC 597, and PC 597.1 ACI humane officers, in conjunction with local law enforcement and animal welfare agencies, will execute the authority to seize and remove animals from abusive and neglectful situations. However, there are many other penal codes that protect animals from abuse in a variety of situations and ACI will use all California penal codes to assure that animals are not abused or neglected.

Not surprisingly, this can cause extremely painful injuries and even broken legs for both steer and horse. Frequently, the tail of the steer can be broken or torn off....[read more]
